Worcester College, Oxford

This staircase leads from the  main entrance to the library of the college. It was built around 1720  and designed by George Clarke. Clarke is known to have worked for Hawksmoor. Later in his life left his collection of drawings and documents by Inigo Jones to the college. These include Inigo Jones’ annotated copy of Palladio’s The Four Books of Architecture.

It is interesting to see the joints between landing stones so clearly expressed.
