This building now houses the Irish Architectural Archive. It is thought to have been designed by Samuel Sproule in 1794. The treads in the staircase have the “Irish Ogee” section with a small rebate between each tread. You can clearly see where the treads have become worn over years of use – I think that it is interesting to see where people have chosen to walk.
A clear joint between the landing stones is visible – the jog of the joggle joint is visible on the soffit, which is a tidy detail that avoids the jog on the more noticeable vertical face of the landing.
The half landing spans right across a window, someone must have got nervous about this at some stage as it now has 2 small beams inserted under it.
