I’m pleased to see that the hoarding from the recent renovation work on the building is down and the facade is looking smart.
This chapel was built in 1889 and was designed by Owen Lewis.
Every time I walk past I always wonder who put the little beams under the stairs and why they did it.
They don’t look substantial enough to actually hold the flight up. Perhaps that heavy balustrade made someone nervous.
Curiously, this etching (found on the Chapel’s website) shows the treads with an ogee profile.
