Prince of Wales stair, Hampton Court Palace

Most of this staircase isn’t a cantilever staircase. The main part is supported on walls and the treads are made up of several pieces as they are so wide.

The top couple of treads are cantilevered, have the ogee profile and are made from singleĀ piecesĀ of stone.

The top landing is made up from several stones, I am pretty certain that the iron work below it is purely decorative and isn’t structural.

The landing stones appear to be built well back into the wall, which would allow them to act as true cantilevers.
